Trout Parade Looks Forward to Spanking!

Livingston Manor, June 3, 2006

From The Desk of The Sturgeon General;

The Third Annual Trout Parade and Arts Festival, Saturday June 10th is excited to bring to the Great Trout Stage Spanking Charlene, a 4 piece rock and roll band from NYC, fronted by Charlene McPherson on vocals, Mo Goldner on guitar, Alison Jones on bass guitar and Phil Cimino on drums. Previously known as Olive Drab, this local yet NYC band has been packing them into venues everywhere, from Resort/ Peez Leweez to the Lakeside Lounge in New York City. In 2006, The Village Voice described the band, “Like early Linda Rondstadt meets the Clash and the Replacements”, while Time Out Magazine raved, “Whiskey soaked energetic rock and roll.” Spanking Charlene is currently in the studio recording their debut album with legendary East Village producer and guitarist, Eric “Roscoe” Ambel and will be releasing it in September 2006.

The band will rock Livingston Manor in one huge block party immediately after the parade on a 40 foot stage on Main Street at 2:30 P.M. Their concert, as well as a performance of Hungry March Band, is free to the public.

Trout Parade Hooks Hungry March Band and Hula Hoopers
Livingston Manor, June 3, 2006

From The Desk of The Sturgeon General;

The Third Annual Livingston Manor Trout Parade and Arts Festival, to be held this Saturday June 10th, rain or shine, will feature two very unique and well traveled performance groups from Brooklyn, New York.

To play the Trout Parade, The Hungry March Band is taking time out of their busy 2006 touring schedule which includes the Red Hook Waterfront Arts Festival, Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade, the Berlin Fusion Festival and the Mercantia Festival in Tuscany, Italy. The 24 piece marching band is a unique blend of brass and percussion, puppets and dancers, edgy music and spoken word rhythms.  The Village Voice named HMB “Best Anarchist Parade Group” in their Best of NYC issue.  Born from a group of non-musicians who wanted to participate in the Mermaid Parade (where they've marched into the ocean), the Hungry March band now have a repertoire that includes bhangra, Latin, and Gypsy music. You'll find them not only at Lincoln Center and Lollapalooza, but also at dog parades, a Harlem block party, and numerous benefits (gardens, food co-ops, art communities). Oh, and they're available for weddings, including this year’s Trout Parade Sole Mates being joined in Holy Mackerelmony!

Joining the Band will be members from Groovehoopalition, a New York based hula hoop troupe. The origin of hooping goes back to the Olympic Games – (where do you think they got those nifty rings they use for the logo?).  The hoop is a basic principle of human physics, and Groovehoopalition pushes the limits and opens a new realm of hoop dynamics. As a “coalition of artists exploring the possibilities that stem from more than just plastic circles”, Groovehoopalition draws its members from groups of dancers, yoga and Pilates instructors, sculptors, painters, light and sound engineers, and musicians. “We are a collective of individuals and artists united by the hoop, inspired by its mysterious power, and the meaning that it brings to all who come in contact with it.”

After marching in the 1:00 PM parade, the hoopers will offer a free hula hoop demonstration and class for all those who are willing to give it a try.  They are bringing a whole barrel full of hoops, so attendees should get ready to be groove hooped!

A Race to the Fin-ish!
Livingston Manor, May 23, 2006

From The Desk of The Sturgeon General;

The third annual Trout Parade in Livingston Manor promises to be another very fishy event, with wacky marching bands, stilt walkers, processional puppets, musical performances and a whole lot of fun for those with and without gills, scales or fins The parade, art and music festival takes place on Saturday June 10th at 1:00 P.M. on Main Street in Livingston Manor, and all profits go to the music and arts departments at the Livingston Manor Central School.  The festivities and stage performances are free to the public, but folks should arrive early to get parking on the streets surrounding Main Street or at the Livingston Manor Central School.

The Trout Parade's main focus is on the arts - music, visual, performance,  - and seeks to blend artistry from the local school, and from artists from around the county and from New York City and beyond.  Beginning at 11 AM, food vendors and artists will be on hand to feed the crowds bodies and souls, while DJ Paris spins her dizzy tunes at the Peez Leweez Beer Garden.  12 noon is line up at the school for all marchers.  This year's performing artists include Brooklyn's own Hungry March Band, a grassroots marching band that blends traditional marching tunes with punk, ska, and Balkan music and Groovehoopalition, a hula hoop troupe that dazzles with their limberness and genuine hippie spirit.  Locally, we will be treated to The Mountaintones Marching Band, the Livingston Manor School Marching Band, and on stage Spanking Charlene and The Forestburgh Playhouse.  NaCl will be up to their old street theater hijinks, and Sabrina Artel's Trailer Talk will be on hand for comments and to record this important piece of local cultural history. The parade will take about 1 hour, with step off at 1 PM and a conclusion at around 2:00.  This year's feature performance piece will be an actual wedding of two sea creatures who swam up Main Street in last year's Trout Parade, sole-mates who are being joined in Holy Mackerelmony, and attended by a Best Man-atee and Mermaids-of-Honor. The salty union will take place at 2:00 PM on the Main Trout Stage immediately after the parade, and everyone is invited to the nautical nuptials. Following the “wetting” the crowd will be treated to 2 hours of live band music on the great Trout Stage on Main Street, with a 4:00 P.M. conclusion. Everyone is invited to eat drink, swim, hula hoop and be merry at this afternoon long block party.
