Rude Orchestra and Hula Hoopers Round Out Trout Parade

Livingston Manor, June 7, 2005

The Second Annual Livingston Manor Trout Parade and Arts Festival, to be held this Saturday June 11th, will play host to two very unique and inspiring performance groups.

The Rude Mechanical Orchestra is a New York City-based radical marching band that infuses political action with celebratory energy and music. Formed before the April 2004 Women's March in Washington D.C, the young brass and wind marching band subsequently focused their organizing energies on the 2004 Republican National Convention.

Since the RNC, Rude Mechanical Orchestra continues to make noise around the New York area and beyond. Their multicultural repertoire ranges from a klezmer tune to a piece from a Bollywood flick. You can find them at political actions, benefits, and other local shindigs.

If the Rude Mechanical Orchestra has a mission other than generating great fun and music, then it is to support events that create social change and foster community development. Many of the group participated last year as members of the Hungry March Band, and are very excited at the prospect of this year’s Trout Parade and festival. They are particularly excited about supporting the burgeoning community event, and the money it raises for the music and arts programs for the local school.

Joining the orchestra will be three members from Groovehoopalition, a New York based hula hoop troupe. The origin of hooping goes back to the Olympic Games – (where do you think they got those nifty rings they use for the logo?). The hoop is a basic principle of human physics, and Groovehoopalition pushes the limits and opens a new realm of hoop dynamics. As a “coalition of artists exploring the possibilities that stem from more than just plastic circles”, Groovehoopalition draws its members from groups of dancers, yoga and Pilates instructors, sculptors, painters, light and sound engineers, and musicians. “We are a collective of individuals and artists united by the hoop, inspired by its mysterious power, and the meaning that it brings to all who come in contact with it.”

After marching in the 1:00 PM parade, the hoopers will offer a free hula hoop demonstration and class for all those who are willing to give it a try. They are bringing a whole barrel full of hoops, so attendees should get ready to be groovehooped!
